Able Sales is engaged in several activities beyond regular business operation in which we acknowledge our responsibility to the global community and we contribute to improve quality of life in Puerto Rico. These efforts can be divided in three areas: Social Responsibility Work, Employee Development, and Environmental Impact.

  1. Social responsibility. Able Sales supports community organizations and promotes the participation of our employees in community service. We are located next to Cucharillas, an economically disadvantaged community in Cataño. Working with the Asociación Pro Juventud de Cucharillas, we organize several charity activities each year. We also contribute to United Way, and our employees give one Saturday each year to clean and paint the facilities of a community organization, usually La Fondita de Jesús or Asociación Pro Juventud. Another organization which we support is SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise). We help teams from universities in Puerto Rico to develop social interest projects which promote free enterprise. In general, we promote the belief that we are part of the community and we have a responsibility to fix the social problems affecting Puerto Rico.
  2. Employee Development. Able Sales is committed to the development of each employee. By helping them gain new skills and knowledge, we achieve higher productivity and better quality. For employees who wish to study and get a degree, we reimburse 100% of their tuition cost if they get an A in the course - 80% if they get a B. The scope of Able Sales’ job related training is to assure that all employees understand how to do their job the safest way and do it right at the first time. Able Sales’ employees receive training on DOT Hazmat Handling, Secure Forklift Operation, GMP’s, HACCP, Food Safety, Excel, Power Point and many others. We also offer health orientations to help employees improve their diet and health habits.
  3. Environment Impact. Able Sales is aware of the need to reduce our carbon footprint and to contribute to more efficient supply chains. Over the last two years we have installed new lighting on our offices and we have installed motion sensors in all our warehouses. These changes have reduced our electricity consumption in these areas by 10% and will pay for themselves in less than 2 years. We are currently installing new air cooling equipment for our controlled temperature warehouses. This investment will pay for itself in 1.5 years and will reduce consumption by more than 20%. Other efforts include recycling of all the paper waste produced by our office, and recycling all the plastic waste from our liquid sugar station. We have installed new insulation in some warehouses which should generate additional savings.
